You may never have
heard of
EFT – the Emotional Freedom Technique –
much less know what it really
is. If you knew what it was and how it could help you in all aspects of
your
physical, emotional and practical life, you would try it. It’s simple to
learn, even simpler to do – and
the potential benefits of EFT are enormous.
EFT developed from
Thought Field Therapy (TFT) during the 1990s, through the work of Gary
Craig.
It works on a
system of ‘meridians’, just like TFT does.
What Are Meridians?
These were
discovered over five thousand years ago by the ancient Chinese. They
found an
energy - invisible to our senses - which flows through
everyone’s body. This
energy flows along the meridians; these are a bit like the copper wires
on an
electrical circuit board, carrying this energy to all parts of the body.
Disturbances in this energy flow are likely to cause physical and mental problems and so it is on freeing up these energy flows that EFT works. There are fourteen such meridians in the body which the Emotional Freedom Technique works upon. By really focusing your mind and tapping on these specific meridian points – points on which acupuncture and acupressure therapies also work - you can rid yourself of many physical, emotional and mental issues which may be holding you back and causing you distress.
How Does EFT Work?
This tapping
re-balances the energy flow which has been disrupted, causing the
unpleasant
symptoms you are feeling. Focusing on the problem you want to tackle
allows you
to tune into the frequency of the disturbance in the way that tuning
into a radio
does.
Then you tap – or
have your EFT therapist tap – on
specific points near the end of each meridian
associated with the particular problem you are facing. This acts to
unblock
that particular channel and allows the energy to travel effectively
again, thus
correcting the problem.
How Is EFT So Effective?
EFT has
undoubted success, perhaps largely due to the fact that it
treats the subconscious mind as well as the conscious mind and the
body. Your
subconscious mind can so often hang on to old beliefs which hinder and
block
your healing process.
What Is EFT Useful For?
EFT
works also upon the subconscious mind and breaks down these
beliefs so that you are no longer unwittingly sabotaging your attempts
to heal
and to change. Emotions and subconscious thoughts play a huge role
within
people feeling pain, too – something which therapies other
than EFT often fail
to appreciate.
As well
psychological trauma, fears and phobias – physical pain can
be healed through EFT in this way. Sometimes one session is enough,
sometimes
it takes several, but long-term, EFT has a great success rate. It is a
gentle
technique during which you should feel calm and in control, and
afterwards, you
should emerge feeling refreshed and relaxed.
EFT is also
something that you can learn to do for yourself, so a lifelong healing
technique is quite literally in your hands through EFT. It is
definitely
something which you should consider learning more about.
